Men's tops
Shirts, Kimonos and Tops for Men
The top determines the direction an outfit takes. Simple styles work best with wide-cut harem pants - with plain trousers, the shirt can take center stage.
What You’ll Find Here
- Hippie and boho shirts: loose-fitting, often with hoods, made from cotton or hemp. Some styles feature woven Hill Tribe borders on the collar and hem.
- Kimonos: worn open over a shirt and trousers. A men’s kimono is the easiest way to add structure to a simple outfit - and the most airy extra layer in summer.
- Hoodies and hooded sweatshirts: for cool evenings, festival nights and transitional weather.
- Ethnic coats and vests: long, open styles with woven patterns.
- Shirts and tank tops: a subtle foundation under everything else.
Hemp, Cotton or Linen?
A hemp shirt is the most durable choice: The fiber withstands significantly more washes than cotton, barely absorbs odors and becomes softer over time rather than looking worn. It feels firmer when new - after three to five washes, the difference is largely gone. Learn more about hemp clothing.
Cotton is softer and easier to care for from day one. Linen blends are the coolest option in midsummer, but they wrinkle more.
How to Combine Tops
The basic rule: one statement piece is enough. If you wear patterned harem pants, keep the top understated - a plain shirt is all you need. If the trousers are simple, the shirt can feature patterns, embroidery or a hood.
Layering almost always works: a shirt as a base, topped with an open shirt or kimono. This helps you handle temperature changes without having to carry anything extra.
For Festivals, Everyday Wear and Transitional Weather
At a festival, what still works after three days matters - natural fibers absorb significantly less odor than synthetics. It gets cold at night, so every backpack should include a hoodie or a poncho. Learn more about festival clothing.
For everyday wear, the simpler styles in earth tones and black work effortlessly - even in the office.
